I’m Mark Poucher and I don’t really have a specific job title here at Emerald Green Feeds none of us does, but I basically manage the field operations for the grass and alfalfa harvesting. I’m usually the one in the field driving the forage harvester. I’ve worked at home for 21 years and I love the variety of work that I have to do within my job, from mechanical work and engineering to driving the machinery, building work to going out and meeting customers at the shows, it’s definitely the variety I like I just love being a farmer full stop! Growing up on the farm I knew that one day I would join the family business and be a farmer, it was never in question for me or for anyone else.
My favourite time of year on the farm is springtime, I love when everything starts to grow again after the winter, the days start to get longer and it’s really the start of the farming year. I think if I had to choose a favourite Emerald Green Feeds product then it would be one or both of the chop products as I enjoy the challenge of getting the quality and freshness of the preserved product into the bag, all it needs is a bit of water adding to make it as fresh as the day it was harvested.
So that you know a little bit more about me as a person when I’m not working, I’m a drummer in a party band, I’ve been doing this for about 15 years, and we’ve played at parties all over England. I’m a big fan of ice cream and I don’t really have a favourite flavour I pretty much like it all, but I do believe you can’t beat a sundae. During the last 6 months I have started running, I did the couch to 5k with my daughter at the beginning of the year and I have carried this on and I’m now running regular 5 and even 10k runs.
