My small team of British Miniature horses have been happily munching on Emerald Green Feeds for some seven years now. Being small they typically only need about a quarter of a 'horse' portion, depending on the time of year and what activity they are doing. The youngsters thrive on Alfalfa-mazing chop with some soaked Meadow Magic nuts and youngstock cubes, and during the winter they enjoy some added Grass-tastic chop when there's next to no greenery around in the paddocks. Jester, the showing stallion, has two very small feeds a day with a little added balancer whilst the oldies (24 and 25 years) are in paradise with a mix of Alfalfa-mazing chop, Grass-tastic chop and Meadow Magic grass pellets, and occasional soaked herbal treats in the winter! Portions are individual.
My feed provider, VLS Stud in Medstead, suggested I might like to try Fibre Fabulous last winter to give my Miniature Horses some variety when we were short of grass on the paddocks. I always add any new feed very gradually and I could tell straight away that all five of my little horses were delighted with it.
Because it's a short chop the horses have to work at chewing and taking their time to eat and enjoy their feed - I really think that's a bonus for them. They're all quite different in type/size and feeding needs ranging from a 26 year old with Cushings, a 25 year old who had laminitis as a youngster, two in their teens and young Jester who goes out showing.
I am a great supporter of the Horse Trust's #weightowin initiative which is helping raise awareness of good body condition scores. Fibre Fabulous has really helped me to provide great feed while having the confidence that my little horses won't pile on the pounds as it's low calorie and perfect for good doers and those prone to laminitis.
